At Sunset Recovery, we understand that men face unique challenges on the road to recovery. That’s why we offer Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as part of our comprehensive, male-focused treatment program—helping men take control of their thoughts, behaviors, and long-term sobriety.
CBT is a structured, evidence-based therapy that empowers men to recognize and change negative patterns of thinking and behavior. Whether you’re just starting your journey or continuing your rehabilitation with us, CBT provides essential tools for building emotional strength, resilience, and a healthier mindset. Why Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Works for Men in Recovery
Men often internalize stress, mask emotional pain, or react impulsively to challenges. CBT offers a practical and focused approach that helps address these patterns head-on. Through guided therapy, clients learn to:
- Recognize distorted thinking that fuels addictive behavior
- Challenge negative beliefs and replace them with realistic, productive thoughts
- Develop healthier coping skills to manage anger, stress, and pressure
- Improve emotional regulation, promoting greater self-control and stability
- Reduce the risk of relapse by building lifelong behavioral tools

Our Men's Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Program
We believe that the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach offers a practical and experience-driven method of personal development and positive change. When coupled with evidence-based clinical therapies in group and individual settings, men come to know lasting recovery.
Some of the evidence-based therapies we employ include:
- Rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) – A form of psychotherapy that helps people identify, challenge, and replace irrational thoughts
- Motivational Interviewing (MI) – A collaborative, person-centered counseling approach that helps individuals explore and resolve ambivalence to strengthen their motivation for change.
- Trauma-Informed Care – An approach that recognizes the widespread impact of trauma and emphasizes safety, trust, and empowerment to support healing and avoid re-traumatization.
- 12-Step Integration – A therapeutic approach that incorporates the principles and practices of 12-step programs to support recovery through accountability, peer support, and spiritual growth.

Fostering Community in Our Florida Treatment Center
Our campus includes several shared housing units where men learn to live together, cook together, and clean together. Included in our expectations of our clients is that they treat their living quarters with care and respect, keeping them clean and supportive of recovery. We have onsite laundry facilities and a shared food pantry stocked with staples that augment what the men purchase for themselves.
Though fellowship isn’t a requirement of life at Sunset House, it’s practically unavoidable. Our men routinely prepare and enjoy their meals together. While their individual and group therapy sessions are teaching men vital recovery skills, these occasions of fellowship provide them with opportunities to practice what they’ve learned, including honesty, accountability, integrity, and empathy. Not to mention, the men are forging relationships and friendships that could last a lifetime.
